ALHAMBRA ALTERATIONS
A thoughtful renovation for a family who loves to entertain and several libraries to showcase a cherished collection of books
PROJECT SUMMARY
This comprehensive house renovation blends modern enhancements with the home's original charm, resulting in harmonious and functional living spaces. The underpinned basement adds valuable living space and is flooded with daylight let in by a new exterior walkout. A mudroom at the back of the house was rebuilt to accommodate a second floor terrace, adding a balcony off of the home office. Custom millwork throughout the house thoughtfully accommodates an extensive book collection, creating storage solutions and visual interest. The house exudes warmth and sophistication with its mixture of rich jewel tones, pattern, and two inviting fireplaces that serve as focal points in their respective rooms.
Location: Roncesvalles, Toronto, ON
Scope: Basement underpinning & gut renovation, selective renovations on all other floors

THE TRANSFORMATION
Every renovation begins with seeing what a home could become.
FRONT ENTRY
We created refreshed, more cohesive facade, with a muted stone base, a deep charcoal front door and refined cornice detailing. A new entrance canopy adds shelter and gives the entry a stronger sense of arrival.
LIVING
We introduced timber ceiling beams to unify the room’s varying ceiling heights, creating a more cohesive architectural rhythm while adding warmth and character. A custom built-in bookcase and a new fireplace with a marble surround anchor the living space.
BEDROOM
We removed a long, awkward closet to expand and reorient the bedroom, creating a more generous and cohesive layout. A full wall of built-in closets provides ample storage, while a custom bookshelf above the bed adds warmth, character and a place for the homeowners’ extensive book collection.
THE BATHROOM
We expanded the bathroom to accommodate a spacious walk-in shower with a built-in bench and a double vanity. A combination of deep green and white tiles, paired with green wainscoting, introduces texture, contrast and character. Brass fixtures, arched mirrored medicine cabinets, and peacock towel bars add warmth and a touch of ornamentation.
